Jon Sumrall is leaving Tulane in historic fashion. He’s investing in their future, and ensuring the program he’s helped build remains positioned for success even after his departure.

Tulane Athletics announced on Monday that Sumrall and his wife, Ginny, have made a $100,000 contribution to the Green Wave Talent Fund, the university’s primary Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) collective. The gift is intended to directly support Tulane football as it transitions to new head coach Will Hall, strengthening the program’s ability to recruit, retain and develop student-athletes.

The contribution comes as Sumrall prepares to take over as Florida’s next head coach after leading Tulane to unprecedented heights. In just two seasons, Sumrall guided the Green Wave to a 20–7 overall record, capturing the American Athletic Conference championship this season and delivering the program’s first-ever College Football Playoff appearance.

“Tulane University and New Orleans are special to me and my family,” Sumrall said in a statement. “Ginny and I are honored to support the Green Wave Talent Fund because we believe in the vision of Tulane Athletics and want to contribute to the continued success of its student-athletes. The future is incredibly bright, and we are excited for Will Hall and his family to be part of it.”

Moreover, the Green Wave Talent Fund plays a critical role in Tulane’s competitive strategy, expanding NIL opportunities for student-athletes and giving coaches the resources needed to compete at a national level. Sumrall’s gift underscores the growing importance of NIL investment, especially during coaching transitions, and reflects a rare level of commitment from a departing head coach.

Sumrall also voiced strong confidence in Hall, who takes over a program coming off one of the most successful stretches in school history: “Coach Hall possesses a keen understanding of Tulane University and its football program, along with a passion that greatly benefits the Green Wave,” Sumrall added. “As a leader, he cares deeply about helping others reach their full potential, and he has our family’s full support.”

Continuing, this isn’t the first time the Sumrall family has invested in Tulane’s future. In 2024, they joined the Olive & Blue Society through a recurring philanthropic commitment to Tulane Athletics, further cementing their lasting ties to the program.

“We are grateful to Jon and Ginny for this incredible gift,” athletic director David Harris said. “Their leadership and generosity will have a direct and lasting impact on our student-athletes as we continue to elevate Tulane Athletics.”

As Sumrall departs for Gainesville, his legacy in New Orleans now includes not only wins and championships, but a tangible investment designed to help Tulane’s next era thrive. It further proves that he’s a one-of-a-kind leader in this new era in college football.
