Kalen DeBoer expects to release Alabama's depth chart during game week

Ahead of his debut at Alabama next weekend, Kalen DeBoer has given a timeframe of when he will release his first depth chart for the Crimson Tide.
DeBoer addressed the depth chart’s release during an interview with the media after practice on Thursday. He said that ‘Bama will likely share it in some form or sense next week ahead of the opener against Western Kentucky.
“Yeah, I mean, we’ll probably do something where it’s public, you know, at some point throughout the week,” said DeBoer.
DeBoer said essentially the entire lineup is complete with only a few decisions left, including what they’re going to do on special teams. However, there will be aspects of it that aren’t final with them listing alternates where they choose.
“I think, for the most part, 90% of it is kind of already known,” said DeBoer. “Obviously, the special teams pieces are still out there. The other 10% or whatever you want to call it? I would say that some of those things are still kind of up in the air and are going to be work in progress and not solidified. If you’ve got a depth chart, there might be some ORs in different spots. That’s hopefully understandable.”
With them now nine days out from game day, DeBoer is also trying to minimize what he shows to WKU. That’s even though he’s well aware of how many cover his new team and, as such, there’s only so much the Hilltoppers won’t know for the opening game.
“You know, a lot of it is also just kind of where it’s at with our opponent too, you know. That’s really – you kind of know, especially after week one. The week one is probably the trickiest,” said DeBoer. “But there’s so much information on us that’s out there already. I always kind of assume that is known by our opponent.”

We’re almost a week out from when Kalen DeBoer takes the field for the first time as head coach in Tuscaloosa. Between now and then, that chart will come out in some way before kickoff.
“There’ll be something,” said DeBoer.
Alabama announces team captains for 2024
In a twist, Alabama released its team captains for the upcoming campaign on Tuesday.
The Crimson Tides’ captains are QB Jalen Milroe, LB Deontae Lawson, OL Tyler Booker and DB Malachi Moore.
When Nick Saban was head coach, the program named its captains after the regular season concluded. However, this decision appears to be another sign of changing times in Tuscaloosa.
In addition to being leaders, Alabama’s captains participate in the coin toss before games. They also have their hand and cleat prints immortalized in cement in the shadow of Denny Chimes every spring along with all of the past captains.
