Kansas point guard Darryn Peterson will miss a second consecutive game, head coach Bill Self told reporters on Friday. He will not play against Princeton on Saturday.

“He’s still sore,” Self said. “For whatever reason, it’s still sore and we’re trying to figure it out. We don’t think it’s a long term deal at all.”

On Tuesday, Peterson did not suit up against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi due to a strained hamstring, per source. Self said postgame the freshman guard practiced Sunday (Nov. 9 after UNC), practiced Monday and took part in the shoot around Tuesday morning.

“But his hamstring was tight this morning,” Self said then. “So I’m not going to risk that. Hopefully it’s precautionary on the reason why he didn’t play. So I look forward to seeing him in practice on Thursday, at least we think that’s the case. But it was tight after he practiced today.”

However, Self said on Friday Peterson hasn’t practiced the last two days (Thursday-Friday) ahead of the Princeton game.

Peterson has been battling the injury since the start of the season. In the Louisville exhibition game, the guard played limited second half minutes. Peterson sat out the following exhibition game vs. Fort Hays State.

On opening night, Peterson returned to the floor vs. Green Bay, but the guard was once again limited in the second half because he felt the issue “coming on,” per Self. Peterson played his first full game against North Carolina on Friday, Nov. 7, scoring 23 points and dishing out three dimes in 28 minutes.

He hasn’t played since.
