Kirby Smart 'doesn't lose sleep' over losses to Alabama: 'What's everybody else's record against em?'

Following a close 24-21 loss to Alabama, coach Kirby Smart faced a little bit of heat in his post-game press conference. His track record against the Crimson Tide isn’t great.
A reporter pointed out to him that Smart is now 1-7 against Alabama during his coaching career. He wondered if that might impact the program going forward.
“I mean what’s everybody else’s record against them?” Kirby Smart asked. “You got it? I don’t either. I don’t lose sleep over that because those games have been like championship-caliber games. Right?”
Alabama and Georgia was certainly a heavy-weight fight on Saturday night. The game was a back-and-forth affair, with the Crimson Tide taking an early lead and the Bulldogs attempting to battle back.
Stopping quarterback Ty Simpson was an issue for Georgia, which allowed him to throw for 276 yards and two scores. Still, it was an excellent college football game overall. Kirby Smart defended his team.

“And even when we play in the regular season they’ve been — I just saw 25 scouts out there,” he said. “They’re all there to watch these teams play. So that’s not going to affect me. I’m going to be happy and just go lucky if our team goes back and plays well. That’s what I worry about. But that, we’ve got to get better. And next year won’t have anything to do with this year.”
Smart isn’t wrong about most of the games being close, either. Four of the seven losses on his record against the Crimson Tide have been decided by a single possession.
The lone win for Kirby Smart, of course, also came in the most important of circumstances. That was a game for the national title following the 2021 regular season. After dispatching Michigan in the semifinals, Georgia then beat Alabama 33-18, claiming the first of back-to-back national championships.
