Kirby Smart shares adorable story about his nine-year-old son's Michigan scouting report

Kirby Smart understands college football defenses as good as any coach in the sport. The Georgia Bulldogs frontman has produced some of the top defenses in the country and built his career on assembling dominating units that can stifle high-powered offenses that are now a staple of the college game.
Even though Georgia finally showed vulnerability in the loss to Alabama in the SEC title game loss, Smart’s 2021 unit will still go down as one of the top defenses in the history of the sport.
With the College Football Playoff final four set, Kirby Smart and the No. 2 Bulldogs will face No. 3 Michigan in the Orange Bowl. For the entirety of the season, this has felt like Smart’s best chance to finally win a national title, and thankfully the defensive guru has an extra volunteer scouting the team standing in his way.
The Georgia head coach spoke to the media ahead of the highly-anticipated semifinal and shared a hilarious story about his young son, who clearly takes after his dad and is already breaking down the Bulldogs’ next opponent.
“It was funny. Last night when I got home, I turned the game on, was watching it. I got a nine-year-old son that loves college football, watches everything YouTube,” the Bulldogs coach shared.
Smart was previously asked about Michigan star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson.
“You can tell high motor, high intensity, serious. Just a talented player,” The Georgia coach responded.
According to Kirby Smart, his son had already identified the Bulldogs’ biggest threat in the semifinal showdown, particularly when Stetson Bennett and the offense attempt to score against the 11th-ranked Michigan defense.

“He started telling me about Michigan’s players,” Smart continued when explaining the in-depth research his son had already conducted before the Georgia coach himself began in-depth film study on his opponent.
“That’s the first guy he started telling me about. I’m like, how does my nine-year-old son know about Aidan Hutchinson? He knew everything about him, was giving me all these stats. I was pretty amazed because I really just started to fill myself in about Michigan last night, and he was talking about Aidan Hutchinson.”
With just under a full month to prepare for one of the biggest games of his career, Smart and his son will have ample amount of time to craft a game plan focused on limiting Hutchinson.
Michigan will have to craft an innovative offensive approach, but Georgia must put the Alabama loss in the rearview mirror. Jim Harbaugh’s squad is playing as good as anyone, and if Kirby Smart is going to get over the hurdle and claim a title, the Bulldogs have to come ready.
