ESPN College GameDay host Kirk Herbstreit dropped his list of top performers from Week 1 on Tuesday, which is topped by Florida Gators starting quarterback Anthony Richardson.

Leading Florida to a win over top-10 Utah, Richardson threw for 168 yards with a 70% completion rate, zero picks, an additional 106 rushing yards, and three scores.

Also making the cut for Herbstriet’s top performers’ list are Iowa punter Tory Taylor, Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett, Arizona wideout Jacob Cowing, Florida State edge Jared Verse, Georgia safety Christopher Smith and Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers.

Every player that made the list was instrumental to their team pulling out a win, but Iowa Hawkeyes’ Tory Taylor had perhaps the game of his life on Saturday. He averaged 47.9 yards on 10 punts in the 7-3 victory over South Dakota State. He had seven punts drop inside the 20-yard line and six inside the 12.

Quarterbacks Stetson Bennett and Will Rogers threw for 368 and 450 yards respectively in Week 1. Both also had completion percentages above 75%. Bennett’s teammate Christopher Smith notched his first INT of the year along with six tackles versus Oregon.

Former UTEP star Jacob Cowing went off in his debut for the Wildcats, posting eight receptions for 152 yards and three touchdowns versus San Diego State.

Jared Verse, a transfer to FSU from Albany, had seven tackles, including three sacks and 2.5 TFLs on Sunday versus LSU.

Herbstreit drops first on-air expletive of the 2022 season

Kirk Herbstreit and College GameDay got off to a roaring start in Columbus for Week 1. In hilarious fashion, the College GameDay analyst and Buckeyes alum dropped his first on-air expletive of the season.

“Oh s—,” Herbstreit exclaimed, responding to a challenge during the crew’s “Quarterback Carousel” segment.

The reaction of his colleagues says it all, as David Pollack immediately broke down with laughter. Additionally, Desmond Howard couldn’t get enough of the moment, cracking a huge smile as his colleagues guffawed.

Nevertheless, College GameDay was sorely missed due to moments like the one above, and there’ll be plenty more to make throughout the 2022 season.

Herbstreit and the GameDay crew head to Austin, Texas next where the Longhorns host No. 1 Alabama for a noon kickoff.
