College football was mesmerized by the performances of Hendon Hooker and Jalin Hyatt in Tennessee’s 52-49 upset of Alabama, and they are rightfully atop Kirk Herbstreit’s top performers from this past week’s college football slate.

Hyatt had the performance of a lifetime, hauling in six receptions for 207 yards and a whopping five touchdowns. Hooker finished with 385 passing yards as well and now has Tennessee in prime position to not only steal the SEC East’s crown from Georgia, but also make a run in the College Football Playoff.

Two other pairs of offensive standouts were selected by Herbstreit. Utah stunned USC 43-42 thanks to Rising’s 415 passing yards. He completed 30 passes on the night – 16 of which were hauled in by Kincaid for 234 yards and a touchdown.

Corum and Edwards had the best one-two running back games of the season. Rushing for 166 yards and 173 yards respectively. Michigan ran for a total of 418 yards against a top-10 opponent in Penn State.

Bryce Young’s return was overshadowed by the Tennessee upset, but the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback completed 35-of-52 (67.3 percent) passes for 455 yards and two touchdowns. Fellow SEC quarterback KJ Jefferson also had a night to remember, putting up 52 points on a tough BYU team in Provo while throwing five touchdowns and no interceptions.

Gadsden hauled in eight receptions for a season-high 141 yards and two touchdowns in Syracuse’s win over NC State. Vantrease, who ranked second in the NCAA in passing yards (2,511), completed 38-of-64 passes for 578 yards, four touchdowns and one interception in a huge upset victory over a ranked James Madison team.

To end Herbie’s list, junior Blake Watson rushed for an astounding 256 yards and three touchdowns en route to demolishing Coastal Carolina 49-21. Before the game, the Old Dominion running back never had more than 80 yards in a game this season.
