On Monday, The Athletic reported that Ole Miss gave head coach Lane Kiffin an ultimatum to decide if he will be leaving the program for Florida or LSU before the Egg Bowl against Mississippi State on Nov. 28. During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, Kiffin said he wasn’t given an ultimatum.

“That’s absolutely not true. There’s been no ultimatum or anything like that at all,” Kiffin said. “I don’t know where that came from, like a lot of stuff that comes out there. Like I said, man, we’re having a blast. I love it here.

“… It just couldn’t be better. Like I said, you pray for things. Our fans prayed for this type of thing, and now we’re in the middle of it. So, enjoy it. You’re 10-1. You’re getting ready. You got a bye week. You get to watch half the country lose, and there’s no way we can lose Saturday. And then, you play the Egg Bowl and go dominate that and keep that Egg Bowl trophy home where it’s been for a long time.”

In his sixth year at the helm of Ole Miss, Kiffin is on the cusp of leading the Rebels to their first-ever appearance in the College Football Playoff. Ole Miss is 10-1 and has an excellent chance of appearing in the CFP, even if it happened to lose to Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl.

While Ole Miss fans are enjoying the ride, they’re also noticing outside distractions. Most notably, LSU and Florida are each interested in hiring Lane Kiffin to be their next head coach. Kiffin isn’t ignoring the programs’ interest.

Kiffin’s family traveled to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Gainesville, Florida, to tour the cities. Additionally, when Kiffin was asked about coaching somewhere else next season, he shut down the question but didn’t dismiss the rumors.

Even if an ultimatum isn’t on the table, pressure is mounting for Kiffin to make a decision. ESPN’s Pete Thamel believes Ole Miss could become frustrated with Kiffin if he continues to examine all options.

“I’ve gotten the feeling that Ole Miss, at the end of this week, may start running out of a little bit of patience, being like, ‘Hey, what else can we do here? You know what I mean, what else? What else can we possibly do?’” Thamel said. “As with Lane Kiffin always, it’s not going to be boring.

“There’s going to be theater. There’s going to be drama. … This is the week where we should get some clues into what Lane’s intentions are.”
