Lane Kiffin takes shot at Mississippi State for mid-game scuffle in Egg Bowl
Lane Kiffin was proud of his Ole Miss team playing clean and making plays in the win over Mississippi State Friday. The two teams got into a bit of a scuffle in the first half of the Rebels’ 38-19 win in the Egg Bowl.
But when the benches emptied, Kiffin took a shot at Mississippi State at halftime and did the same after the game. We’re sure this will be another great zinger on Kiffin’s long list of quotes.
“It’s a heck of an accomplishment, they played clean football,” Kiffin said postgame. “Programs are built different, we want to make SportsCenter for making good plays, not making fights.”
The Egg Bowl had no shortage of drama on or off the field Friday. Off the field, it was all about Lane Kiffin and his future at Ole Miss. He will apparently decide what’s to come by Saturday, according to a statement from the Rebels’ athletic department.
Not only that, the Egg Bowl fever reached the Ole Miss locker room early Friday morning, by way of some thieves. Chambliss’ jerseys were stolen from the locker room in the wee hours by unidentified persons.

But the most pressing question is Kiffin’s future. Will he stay at Ole Miss or head to LSU?
“No, I haven’t (made up my mind),” Kiffin told ESPN’s Taylor McGregor on the broadcast. “I’ve got a lot of praying to do to figure that out tomorrow, but right now, I’m just going to go enjoy these players. I told them last night, you’re going to win your 11th game, and all I want to do is experience joy watching you, and that’s what I’m about to do.”
Kiffin and Ole Miss controlled Friday’s game from the get-go, which makes his impending decision all the more anxiety-filled for those in Oxford. Earlier in the day, On3’s Chris Low reported it’s down between staying at Ole Miss or going to LSU for Kiffin.
But Kiffin kept the focus on the current team and winning as they could still get into the SEC Championship game by day’s end. They need losses by Texas A&M and Alabama to get to Atlanta.
