Lane Kiffin trolls Paul Finebaum, fires back at SEC Network host on social media

Paul Finebaum joined the Dan Patrick Show on Wednesday, and it wasn’t long before the two began discussing Lane Kiffin. Patrick asked the SEC Network host whether Ole Miss ever had a chance of retaining him.

“No, I don’t think so,” Finebaum responded. “Lane Kiffin is like that girlfriend in high school. You walk into the party and she’s looking right over your shoulder at the quarterback.”

Kiffin responded to the X post, trolling Finebaum only the way the LSU head coach knows how. “Do you actually have a high school girlfriend Paul??” he tweeted.

Finebaum and the new LSU head coach have an interesting relationship to say the least. This interaction is the latest in their ongoing saga of back and forths.

During SEC Media Days ahead of the 2025 season, Finebaum compared his relationship with Kiffin to speed-dating. He said you never know what you’re going to get out of him when he sits down on set.

“You have five minutes. You have no earthly idea what he’s going to say, how he’s going to say it,” Finebaum said at the time. “That’s his personality. I mean, he’s mercurial, but incredibly smart.”

This came after their interview during the SEC spring meetings, where Kiffin blamed Finebaum for ruining his relationship with Phil Fulmer, the former longtime Tennessee coach who Kiffin took over for after his retirement.

“I think you reported one time that I got Phil Fulmer fired,” Kiffin said. “It wasn’t true at all… And Phil Fulmer never spoke to me because of that, because of you reporting that. Never once. I tried to reach out, try to go over and meet him. He wouldn’t talk to me because he was convinced because Paul Finebaum said that I got him fired.”

Numerous moments over the years have made Kiffin-Finebaum interviews painfully awkward, yet must-see television at the same time. With both of them being two of the louder voices in their respective industries, it’s never a boring conversation when they’re together.

Those conversations are here to stay, too. Finebaum will continue hosting his weekday show on the SEC Network after revealing he’s no longer considering a run of U.S. Senate. Meanwhile, Kiffin is no longer the head coach at Ole Miss but is remaining in the SEC holding the same job at LSU.
