LaNorris Sellers injury update: Latest on South Carolina QB ahead of Missouri

South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers was back in practice on Thursday and continues to trend towards playing on Saturday at Missouri, barring a setback, sources tell Chris Low and I for On3. Sellers exited the Vanderbilt game in the first half with a head injury.
The star quarterback suffered a concussion against Vanderbilt but was listed as questionable on the initial SEC injury report on Wednesday night. Sellers went down Saturday after taking a hit from Vanderbilt linebacker Langston Patterson in the final two minutes of the second quarter. Patterson was ejected from the game for targeting on the play.
Sellers has posted 476 total yards and three touchdowns in three games this season. He entered the season as a Heisman Trophy contender following his breakout 2024 season, throwing for 2,534 yards and rushing for 674 yards. Saturday’s game at Missouri is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
The third-year player would be a top quarterback in the 2026 NFL draft if he decided to enter. Backup Luke Doty replaced Sellers against Vanderbilt, finishing 18 of 27 for 148 yards with an interception and a fumble. The sixth-year senior has made nine career starts. It marked South Carolina’s first loss to Vanderbilt since 2008.
South Carolina is 2-1 on the season and is now entering the brunt of their SEC schedule. South Carolina plays at Missouri, then hosts Kentucky on Sept. 27 before a bye in the first week of October. The Gamecocks visit LSU on Oct. 11, coming off the bye.

South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer said earlier this week to refer to the injury report for Sellers’ status. He shared his frustration about the targeting call in his halftime interview on Saturday.
“I asked him as soon as it happened if [they were] looking at it for targeting,” Beamer said. “For our quarterback to be lying there on the ground like that, he probably got hit in the head. And then, for whatever reason, it took them a while to buzz down.
“So, I don’t know what’s going on in Birmingham or wherever they look at it, but I thought it was pretty obvious.”
