Ever since Missouri joined the SEC, there has been something on the line when facing off against South Carolina. The two will play for the Mayor’s Cup to represent playing in a city with the same name, Columbia. And of all the matchups throughout the years, this one has just a little bit more.

Both teams entered the season with high expectations. To this point, Missouri is undefeated thanks to a big-time rivalry win against Kansas. Eli Drinkwitz enjoyed the victory vs. Louisiana too, continuing the early-season success. The same cannot be said for South Carolina, which suffered a tough defeat to Vanderbilt on Saturday. A rebound is needed for the Gamecocks to refrain from 0-2 in the SEC.

Injuries are a major storyline heading in. Specifically, South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers. He left the Vanderbilt game due to a concussion and did not return. No update had come from Shane Beamer, pointing to this injury report.

Now, we have the Wednesday night status of Sellers a few days before kickoff. You can check out the full injury report here.

Shane Beamer goes at LarNorris Sellers conspiracy theory

Shane Beamer has seen the message board headlines. He’s heard the radio show fodder. And the fifth-year South Carolina head coach is fed up with all of it.

Regardless of any “conspiracy theories” that might be floating around, Beamer made it clear that Gamecocks coaches are NOT purposely inhibiting South Carolina dual-threat sophomore quarterback LaNorris Sellers‘ natural ability to run the ball.

“I don’t know what conspiracy theories are out there, but I’ve never said – and no one in this building has ever said – we need to run the quarterback less. Like I hear all this crap about ‘they’re not running the quarterback enough,’ we’re calling the same God dang plays we called last year, guys. And we’re not saying we need to run LaNorris less,” a heated Beamer said during Tuesday’s press conference.

“I know there’s this conspiracy theory going back to the bowl game that we said not to run LaNorris as much. We’re running plenty. And some of those are reads where LaNorris can hand it or pull it and keep it. Some of those are RPOs where he can run it or throw it. And some of those are called designed runs that he runs.”
