UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava will not play Saturday at Ohio State because of a concussion, sources told On3.

Iamaleava suffered the concussion in last week’s loss against Nebraska, but concussion symptoms didn’t surface until after the game, a source said.

The Bruins lost the game 28-21. Iamaleava was 17 of 25 for 191 yards passing and two touchdowns against Nebraska. He also rushed 15 times for 86 yards in the contest.

A transfer from Tennessee, Iamaleava had started all nine games for the Bruins and was UCLA’s only quarterback to have attempted a pass for the Bruins this season. Iamaleava’s career at Tennessee ended against the Buckeyes in Columbus a year ago. He completed 14 of 31 passes for 104 yards in a 42-17 loss to Ohio State in the first round of the 2024 College Football Playoff.

This season, Iamaleava has thrown for 1,659 yards, 12 touchdowns, and seven interceptions while completing 63% of his throws. On the ground, he has added 474 yards and four scores.

Sophomore back-up Luke Duncan, whose only action this season was against Michigan State on Oct. 11, is expected to get his first career start vs. the No. 1 ranked Buckeyes.

UCLA is 3-6 on the season. The Bruins fired head coach DeShaun Foster after a 0-3 start this year. Tim Skipper took over as interim head coach once Foster was let go.
