Makhi, Makhel Mitchell enter transfer portal, declare for NBA draft

Rhode Island big men Makhi and Makhel Mitchell have entered the transfer portal while also declaring for the 2022 NBA draft. The two will leave the option to return to school open.
The twin brothers combined for 20.6 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per contest, all while shooting over 50% from the field.
Makhi and Makhel ended the year with very similar stat lines. Makhi averaged 9.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. Makhel finished the season with very comparable numbers — 10.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists.

“Additionally, I have made a decision to enter my name into the transfer portal based on the conversation I had with the incoming coach and we both came to the conclusion that it’s best for me to further my collegiate career with a program more conducive to my style of play. I feel that it is important to consider all my options in order to make a decision that is best for my future,” Makhi and Makhel Mitchell both said in a statement.
The brothers began their collegiate career at Maryland, but vouched to transfer after one season after both playing limited minutes.
