Transfer Portal News Of The Day December 18 - Malachi Nelson Plans To Transfer, Juice Wells To Ole Miss

It sounds like Malachi Nelson might have some interest in going from one USC to another. The former five-star recruit and former USC quarterback is reportedly interested in South Carolina, according to SportsTalkSC.

“Southern Cal transfer QB Malachi Nelson tells us he has interest in #Gamecocks. Said he’s impressed by what they’ve done developing quarterbacks,” SportsTalkSC posted on Twitter.

Nelson just completed his freshman season at USC. He was ranked as the No. 11 overall player in the country in the class of 2023, according to the On3 Industry rankings.

South Carolina did have success with another top transfer QB over the past couple of years in Spencer Rattler. The former five-star recruit and Oklahoma quarterback is expected to get drafted after two seasons with the Gamecocks.

Malachi Nelson is from Los Alamitos High School in California.

As a senior in high school, he completed 192 of 286 passes for 2,898 yards and 35 touchdowns, with four interceptions. He also rushed for 153 yards and two scores.

Nelson is expected to have plenty of interest from some of the top programs in the country.

Miller Moss reacts to Malachi Nelson choosing to enter transfer portal

Malachi Nelson isn’t the only USC quarterback from the 2023 season who is no longer on the Trojans roster. Caleb Williams opted out of the bowl game to prepare for the NFL. That leaves Miller Moss as the only QB on the roster who has thrown a pass in a game this season.

Moss is slated to start for the Trojans in the Holiday Bowl against Louisville on Dec. 27. He was asked for his reaction to Malachi Nelson entering the transfer portal.

“I mean obviously everyone has to do what’s best for themselves,” Miller Moss said. “We’re happy with the group we have here and whoever wants to be here is here and we’re excited to come together in that way.”

Moss was a four-star recruit and the No. 79 overall player in the country in the class of 2021, according to the On3 Industry rankings.

The redshirt sophomore has appeared in four games this season and is 23 of 32 passing for 309 yards and a touchdown.

Moss is looking forward to his opportunity to start and feels good about the roster USC has, even with Malachi Nelson and others no longer on the roster.

“I mean, it’s kind of a crazy environment these days,” Moss said. “Everyone has to do what they think is best for themselves, but we’re happy with what we have here.”
