WATCH: Markevious Brown not ejected for targeting after controversial Jayden Daniels hit

Ole Miss cornerback Markevious Brown was flagged for targeting after a hit on LSU’s Jayden Daniels, but was not ejected after review. The review decision drew criticism from LSU fans who felt the hit was a dangerous one on their quarterback who was already falling to the ground. However, officials ruled the hit was not worthy of an ejection — possibly because of the speed of the play.

By the rules, a runner on the ground is considered defenseless and a hit like the one Daniels took could be considered targeting if he was down when the hit occurred. Despite this, the CBS broadcast speculated that the lack of ejection could be the result of how quickly the hit came after Daniels fell to the field. If the officials felt the hit was not “late” then it could be considered a legal hit on a runner.
The hit did nothing to stop Daniels have having a monster game on Saturday though, with Daniels finishing with 369 yards of total offense and five touchdowns. The Tigers started slow but outscored Ole Miss 42-3 after trailing 17-3 early in the first half — taking down the undefeated Rebels with a final score of 45-20.

The win was a huge statement for LSU after a bumpy start to Brian Kelly’s first season at the helm. LSU is now 6-2 on the season with a bye week coming up to prepare for Alabama next.
LSU didn’t waste any time either after the win, trolling Lane Kiffin by bringing up a joke he made about Brian Kelly shortly after he arrived in Baton Rogue. One of Kelly’s earliest public moments as the new Tigers coach was a video of him dancing beside tight end recruit Danny Lewis Jr. — a video that Kiffin joked had to be fake or that Kelly’s account was hacked. After the big win, LSU’s Twitter account shared a photo of Kelly with emojis saying “no rat poison” in response to Kiffin’s joke back in January.
