Wednesday night’s Sun Belt matchup between the Marshall Thundering Herd and the Louisiana Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns was in a weather delay at halftime. According to the ESPN2 broadcast, the stands at Joan C. Edwards Stadium in Huntington, West Virginia were completely cleared due to lightning in the area. Luckily, the weather cleared up after a 30-minute delay and play officially resumed at 9:50 EST.

Marshall led the game 7-3 at halftime and fans were treated to some ferociously hard hits in the first half by both teams. Thundering Herd running back Khalan Laborn rushed 16 times for 65 yards and a touchdown.

The Ragin’ Cajuns are coached by head coach Michael Desormeaux, one of the greatest players in the program’s history. The Marshall Football Twitter account mentioned the weather delay in a tweet, but the ESPN2 broadcast also made sure fans stayed updated on the information for Wednesday night’s game.

At 9:43 PM EST, players from both teams warmed up on the field after dealing with a pretty brief weather delay at halftime.

Marshall has a few relatives of famous players on their roster

Marshall has a famous player on their roster, the son of former Thundering Herd legend Chad Pennington. Cole Pennington was rated as a three-star recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus Rankings. The Thundering Herd also have the brother of former South Carolina Gamecock great Stephon Gilmore on their roster, Steven Gilmore.

The Ragin Cajuns snatched their 11th interception of the 2022 season, after Marshall quarterback Henry Columbi launched a poorly thrown deep ball into double coverage. Ball State wide receiver Dontae Fleming caught a beautifully lofted touchdown pass thrown by Ben Woolridge with just under 11 minutes remaining in the third quarter. Louisiana-Lafayette prevailed in Wednesday night’s game, 23-13. Woolridge finished with 275 all-purpose yards and two passing touchdowns for the Ragin’ Cajuns.
