Maryland football player Daniel “DD” Holmes is accused of DUI and driving his vehicle into a parking garage, according to 7News. He is facing four DUI-related charges.

Holmes, 19, allegedly crashed a Dodge sedan into a parking garage at approx. 1 a.m. Wednesday, 7News reported. Police also said a smell of alcohol was presence and Holmes allegedly did not perform a sobriety test when asked to do so.

Holmes was arrested and later released after receiving paperwork, police told 7News. A Maryland Athletics spokesperson told the station that the school is handling the situation internally.

Holmes is in his first season at Maryland after transferring from Florida State this offseason. He appeared in one game with the Seminoles in 2024 as a true freshman, recording a tackle in a victory over Charleston Southern.

After the season, Holmes entered the transfer portal and committed to Maryland, where he’s appeared in all four games so far this year. He has three total tackles and a quarterback hit, and he recorded his first solo tackle of the season last time out against Wisconsin.

DD Holmes arrived on the college football scene out of Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 286 overall player from the 2024 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking. After hitting the portal, Holmes became the No. 231-ranked player in the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings.

Holmes was one of eight players Maryland added from the transfer portal this past cycle, joining a Terps team with some young talent leading the way to a 4-0 record. Quarterback Malik Washington is a true freshman and running back DeJuan Williams is a redshirt freshman in 2025, and they’re both making early impacts. Washington leads the program with 1,038 passing yards and eight touchdowns while Williams has a team-high 183 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Maryland is off this week following the 27-10 victory over Wisconsin in Madison last time out. In that game, Washington threw for 265 yards and two touchdowns while Williams led the way with 62 rushing yards on the ground. The Terrapins will now get ready to welcome Washington on Oct. 4 with a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff on Big Ten Network.
