Maryland football lands local three-star TE

Local three-star tight end Javonte Williams is second commitment in as many days for Maryland
Maryland football snagged a second local commitment in as many days July 1, as Potomac (Md.) Bullis three-star tight end Javonte Williams announced his pledge to the Terps via social media.
Williams chose the Terps over NC State and Pittsburgh after taking official visits to all three schools over the past month. Other offers included Duke, Indiana and Rutgers.
Williams announced his commitment a day after District Heights (Md.) Bishop McNamara edge rusher Jianni Davis, son of former Terps tight end great Vernon Davis.
Maryland, who offered Williams back on April 1, was the first school to host Williams for an official visit which began on May 29.
With Williams living in such close proximity, they were also able to host him numerous times on unofficial visits, helping to build a bond with the Terrapin coaching staff and become more familiar with the school and program.
“If I had to guess, I want to say six, seven times to Maryland,” Williams told Rivals last month. “I’ve been there a lot.”

Williams caught 35 passes for 679 yards and six touchdowns as a junior last year at Bullis , where he also participated in track and field.
The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Williams is the ninth overall commitment of Maryland’s 2026 class and joins Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances three-star Damon Hall and Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga three-star Braydon Marko as the third tight end commit.
As for what type of player the Terps are getting in Williams, he believes they are getting a physical playmaker.
“I would say I’m a physical and physical tight end,” Williams said. “You get the ball in my hands, the chains are moving every time. I don’t want to be the tackle in college, I want to have opportunities to score touchdowns and do that.”
