Jim McIngvale, better known to the world as Mattress Mack, is an interesting figure. A businessman who owned a chain of furniture stores, he has now become a notable figure in the sports betting world. His most recent bet is in on the College Football Playoff National Championship game.

Mattress Mack has bet $3 million on TCU to win the CFP National Championship game. If he wins this bet, he will earn $8 million. Sports Business Journal reported the bet.

It’s worth pointing out that Mattress Mack doesn’t have any direct relationship with TCU. The school he’s most commonly associated with is Houston, which is in his home city. However, he went to North Texas in Denton.

This bet is a long shot, which is actually part of the appeal. It comes with a better payout than betting on Georgia to win the game. On top of that, Mattress Mack is backing a Texas school with this bet, which despite not being his school is still his state.

For last year’s Super Bowl, Mattress Mack lost a $4.5 million bet that he put on the Cincinnati Bengals. That was the largest mobile wager in the history of sports betting. He also won $75 million in total payouts for the Houston Astros winning the 2022 World Series.

TCU is embracing being an underdog

TCU is one of the biggest underdogs in the history of the College Football Playoff. However, that’s a role that they’re embracing, as quarterback Max Duggan explained.

“I’m just preparing the same way that we have all year,” Duggan said.

“And I think it’s something that coach Dykes has done a great job of, you know, it’s business as usual. I think we’re doing the same job or the same things that we’ve done, whether it’s, practice, meetings, preparation, lifting, nutrition, recovery, things of that sort. So it’s just being confident and what we’ve done to get to this position and I think just doing the same thing goes on in this game.”
