No. 1 2027 wrestling prospect Melvin Miller narrowed his recruiting list to six schools on Monday, via his Instagram. He announced his top nine schools back in June.

As it stands now, Miller is down to Oklahoma State, Michigan, Virginia Tech, Penn State, Ohio State and Nebraska. He removed Pitt, Missouri and Arizona State. Miller also previously removed Iowa after his older brother Bo Bassett decommitted.

It should be noted Miller added Virginia Tech and Ohio State this time around. The Hokies and Buckeyes were not on the list back in June.

“Narrowing it down isn’t easy, but I know I can’t make a bad choice with this list,” Miller wrote. “‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart … and He will make your paths straight.’ Proverbs 3:5-6.”

Hailing out of Bishop McCort High School (Pa.), Miller is a two-time state champion at 152 and 160 pounds over the last two years. He has a career record of 106-4 through two seasons, per PA-Wrestling.

Melvin Miller closer to recruiting decision

Miller could very well be paired alongside older brother Bo Bassett and younger brother Keegan Bassett (2028) when it’s all said and done. Miller and Bo Bassett share Penn State, Oklahoma State and Nebraska, as far as similar schools on their lists.

Interestingly enough, Bassett did not give the Huskers an official visit during his initial recruitment. He visited Penn State and Oklahoma State and has Bishop McCort teammates currently committed to each school.

Bassett visited Iowa, MichiganOhio StateOklahoma StatePenn State and Rutgers throughout his process this past year. Currently, his high school teammates Sam Herring (Penn State) and No. 1 overall prospect Jax Forrest (Oklahoma State) are committed.

Nebraska made waves this offseason by landing 2021 NCAA champion AJ Ferrari in the transfer portal following a 2nd place team finish at NCAAs. Bassett would fit in nicely in the middle of the Huskers lineup in 2026-27. Ferrari also joined On3 Wrestling to discuss the next chapter in his career.

As far as accomplishments, Bassett won his third Ironman title this winter, this time at 144 pounds and had tech falls over six straight opponents. He also won his second Pennsylvania state title this past winter.
