Louisville enters Week 12 as the favorite to face Florida State in the ACC Championship game, but first must take care of business against Miami. The Cardinals enter the matchup as a narrow 1.5-point road favorite according to FanDuel, so Vegas isn’t expecting it to be easy.

The first season for Jeff Brohm as the Louisville coach couldn’t have gone much better to this point, as the Cardinals are currently 9-1 and ranked 11th in the College Football Playoff. That gives them an outside shot at reaching the CFP if they can close out strong and also manage to win the ACC title game.

Louisville has so far been among the best defensive teams in the ACC with 17.1 points and 300.1 yards allowed per game. That has enabled the Cardinals to earn quality victories against Notre Dame and Duke so far, shutting out the Blue Devils 23-0 in Week 9.

This past week they survived a late rally from Virginia to come back and win by a score of 31-24. Louisville held a 14-0 lead at halftime before allowing the Cavaliers to score 21 unanswered points and take the lead. The Cardinals came back to tie it before Isaac Guerendo broke free for a 73-yard touchdown run to go ahead for good with 3:24 remaining.

Miami has been on a downslide ever since starting out the season 4-0, now having lost four of its past six games. It all began with the infamous gaffe from Mario Cristobal in the ACC opener against Georgia Tech, as he opted not to take a knee and the Hurricanes fumbled to lose the game.

Still, Miami managed to hang around with undefeated Florida State this past week on their way to an eventual 27-20 loss. Starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke was benched in favor of freshman Emory Williams to begin the game. Williams threw for 175 yards and a pair of touchdowns before suffering an injury as Van Dyke had to once again take over.

Unfortunately, Van Dyke threw an interception on the final drive with 40 seconds remaining as the Hurricanes attempt to tie things up fell short. Williams was later seen with a cast on his arm, so it would appear Van Dyke will again be the starter against Louisville.

Miami and Louisville have not played since the 2020 season in a game the Hurricanes won 47-34. Miami leads the all-time series against the Cardinals 11-3.

Kickoff between Miami and Louisville is set for noon ET on Saturday in Coral Gables.
