Report: Michigan officials hold call about Sherrone Moore situation, Warde Manuel remains AD
Michigan board members and school officials held a call regarding the Sherrone Moore situation Thursday, Yahoo! Sports’ Ross Dellenger reported. As the Wolverines begin their coaching search, Warde Manuel also remains the AD.
Rumors and reports have been swirling about Manuel’s status as athletics director following Moore’s departure. Michigan announced Wednesday he was fired with cause after a university investigation uncovered evidence of an inappropriate relationship with a staff member, constituting a violation of both Moore’s contract and school policy.
Michigan historian John U. Bacon said Thursday that Manuel’s status as AD was in question in light of the situation. Bacon said his future is “being discussed” by university Regents, though Dellenger reported Manuel is still in the role as Michigan begins its search.
Moore’s departure sent a shockwave across college football after Michigan abruptly called a team meeting to inform players of the news, On3’s Pete Nakos reported. Because the firing was with cause, UM is not on the hook for a more than $12 million buyout.
In addition, Moore was detained by police on Wednesday after officers responded to an alleged assault, the Pittsfield Township Police Department announced late Wednesday night. He was then booked into the Washtenaw County Jail, and he is due for arraignment on Friday.

Court records show Moore was booked into the Washtenaw County Jail on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. ET. No charges have yet been released.
“The Pittsfield Police Department responded to the above location at the above date and time for the purposes of investigating an alleged assault,” the statement read. “The department has received multiple media requests for information. A suspect in this case was taken into custody. This incident does not appear to be random in nature, and there appears to be no ongoing threat to the community. The suspect was lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail pending review of charges by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor.
“At this time, the investigation is ongoing. Given the nature of the allegations, the need to maintain the integrity of the investigations, and its current status at this time, we are prohibited from releasing additional details. Further details regarding the incident will be released as soon as permissible.”
In a previous statement to ESPN, the Saline (Mich.) Police Department said it assisted in locating and detaining Moore on Wednesday. From there, officers turned him over to Pittsfield Township police.
