Michigan State Hockey Commitment: 2008 forward Brooks Rogowski pledges to the Spartans

Aug. 1 is an important day in the college hockey world, marking when rising juniors can announce their verbal commitments to college programs. With the rule change to NCAA hockey this past fall, allowing players from the CHL Major Junior hockey in Canada to play NCAA hockey, we are experiencing our first Aug. 1 period where CHL players and young players intending to play NCAA hockey can make their decisions known.
With this being the first year, there are a lot of unknowns of who will commit early, and who will wait their options out. With that landscape present, the Michigan State hockey team has struck early, landing a commitment from 2008 Brighton, Michigan native and forward Brooks Rogowski.
Rogowski is an absolute physical specimen, who reportedly was measured at 6-foot-7 and 240 pounds on a recent visit to East Lansing this summer. Rogowski has been monitored by the Spartans’ staff for a few years, going back to his time as a player at Detroit Catholic Central in Michigan High School hockey.
Rogowski spent this past season (2024-2025) with the Oshawa Generals of the OHL, registering 11 goals and 12 assists in 66 games played as a rookie. Historically, this move would have marked the end of Michigan State’s involvement in chasing Rogowski, but as the rule change was expected and then made final this past fall, the Spartans stayed active to close the deal with a talented in-state player.

The size is of course the first thing noticed about Rogowski, who has continued to grow and add weight each of the last three seasons. Players in a growth spurt, growing as Rogowski has, struggle to sometimes keep their skating stride developing and keep their agility as they get used to their new size. Rogowski has been able to keep his skating developing to allow him to be strong at carrying the puck and leading offense as a puck carrier on zone entries into the offensive zone. While his stats don’t jump off as dominant, coming from Michigan High School hockey to the OHL at the age 16 and having the impact he had is quite impressive.
Rogowski enters next season looking to make an impact heading into the 2026 NHL Draft and now has his development path settled with a commitment to the Spartans.
