Mike McCarthy provides plan for Dak Prescott's return

The injury to Dak Prescott has been the early storyline of the season for the Dallas Cowboys. Those who follow the franchise have anxiously awaited updates on the team’s starting quarterback. With things trending towards a return for Prescott, though, head coach Mike McCarthy wants to slow things down before clearing his QB to return to the field.

During media today, McCarthy said they want to be cautious with Prescott. He says it would take a full week of preparation before the team will clear him.

“I definitely want to see Dak go through a full week of prep before he plays,” said McCarthy

The Cowboys have yet to skip a beat in Prescott’s absence. The team has gone 3-0 since the opener when they lost Prescott. Cooper Rush has stolen the show, but Dallas still wants to get Prescott back as soon as possible. With them playing so well without him, though, McCarthy sees no need to rush him back if he’s not 100% ready yet.

Mike McCarthy sets parameters for potential Dak Prescott return from injury

Dallas Cowboys seem to be getting closer and closer to the return of quarterback Dak Prescott, who suffered a broken thumb in week 1 that required surgery. As the Cowboys head into their week week 5 matchup versus the Los Angels Rams, head coach Mike McCarthy spoke on what he needs to see out of his quarterback before he returns to play.

“I mean, we’re not talking about being out one week here or two. This is going to be a month,” said McCarthy. “We’ve got four seven-day runs here, so I think that will time up.”

Prescott seems to be right on schedule with his original 4-6 week projection of his return after suffering his injury, as he’s a week removed from getting his stitches removed and should be working towards getting his grip strength strong enough for play sooner than later for Dallas.

McCarthy also added that Prescott has a doctor’s appointment scheduled for tomorrow, and that they’ll know more about the plan for him this week after that.
