Mike Norvell provides marching orders for Florida State in critical fourth quarter vs. Georgia Tech

No. 10 Florida State is locked in a dog fight with Georgia Tech early in the fourth quarter and coach Mike Norvell is looking for answers as his team tries to get the 2024 season started with a win.
His team’s offense had stagnated after a dominant opening drive, unable to push the ball downfield with the pass.
“You know, obviously we’ve got to make sure that we’re sustaining our drives,” Mike Norvell said on the game broadcast. “We’ve had a couple opportunities, we’ve moved the ball, gotten in positive territory but obviously we’ve got to continue to capitalize. Had a few missed opportunities. They’ve done a good job creating a pass rush.”
In addition to putting the clamps down on the Seminoles defensively, the Yellow Jackets have also been the beneficiary of some turnover luck.

Haynes King fumbled an exchange with a running back late in the third quarter, but despite about five Florida State players being around the ball, the lone Georgia Tech offensive lineman in the area was able to cover it up.

That was a huge swing, as it extended a drive that would turn into the go-ahead drive between quarters.
“We’ve got to be able to get the ball out, get separation and then obviously we’ve got to make sure we’re finishing plays there defensively,” Mike Norvell said. “Had an opportunity there with the ball on the ground, we’ve got to make sure we capitalize there and obviously got to stop the run. The quarterback’s doing a good job extending plays.”
But after Georgia Tech took a 21-14 lead following the fumble, Florida State would answer with some heroics from quarterback DJ Uiagalelei. He completed a key fourth-down pass to extend a drive that would ultimately turn into a game-tying one.
Florida State and Georgia Tech were knotted at 21-21 with 6:33 left to play at the time of this writing.
