Murray State softball was involved in an accident Wednesday en route to the NCAA Tournament, the program announced.

The Racers were en route to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where they were going to take on Stanford in the first round of the tournament. Three people were taken to the hospital, but none of them had life-threatening injuries, the university said.

Murray State is one of four teams in the Tuscaloosa Regional along with Stanford, Alabama and Chattanooga. The Racers and Cardinal are scheduled to play May 20 at 6:30 p.m. ET, but it’s unclear if the game will proceed as scheduled after the bus accident.

After news came out about the accident, Alabama Softball tweeted the program’s best wishes to Murray State.

“Keep Murray State, one of our incoming NCAA Regional teams, in your thoughts and prayers,” the Crimson Tide tweeted.

Murray State went 40-16-1 overall and 21-7 in Ohio Valley Conference play this season. This is the Racers’ final campaign as a member of the OVC as they prepare to join the Missouri Valley Conference starting with the 2022-23 school year.

The Racers brought home plenty of OVC postseason awards after the season. Hannah James earned OVC Pitcher of the Year honors after posting an impressive redshirt junior season. She went 20-6 with a 1.31 ERA — the fifth-best mark in Division I — and broke her own single-season program record with 206 strikeouts.

In addition, Murray State head coach Kara Amundson became the first coach in program history to win OVC Coach of the Year award. The Racers also had three first team All-OVC and four second team All-OVC selections as part of a massive haul. In fact, it marked the first time MSU had seven players earn all-league honors and James was the first pitcher in program history to win league Pitcher of the Year.
