4-star WR Nasir Rankin to commit later this month

One of the top 2026 prospects in Illinois is set to announce his commitment later this month.
On Thursday evening, Chicago Morgan Park four-star wide receiver Nasir Rankin announced on social media that he will make his college decision public on May 21. The 5-foot-11.5, 167-pounder will choose between five schools: Duke, Illinois, Nebraska, North Carolina and USC.
Rankin is the No. 196 overall prospect and No. 30 wideout in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 7 player in Illinois.
Offers continued to roll in for the pass-catcher this spring as new programs continued to catch his eye. He’s now whittled things down to a final five and will come off the board next Wednesday. The likes of Michigan, Oregon and Wisconsin are schools that didn’t make the cut for the blue-chipper.
According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Illinois is trending to keep Rankin in his home state. The Illini have already gotten him back to campus for an official visit and have long been a top contender in his process.
“It’s home. Their offense is pretty good. They produce a lot of nice receivers and a lot of kids go to the NFL,” Rankin told On3’s Steve Wiltfong earlier this year.
He also got to Nebraska and USC at the end of March. A June official visit has been locked in with the Huskers, but he’ll soon come off the board before that return date to Lincoln rolls around.

Rankin is a two-sport star at the high school level, also excelling on the hardwood. As a junior for Morgan Park, he caught 40 passes for 991 yards and 12 touchdowns. The Mustangs won nine games in 2024.
Rankin talks USC and Duke
When speaking with Wiltfong in February, Rankin dished on some of the other teams standing out in his recruitment, including the Trojans and Blue Devils:
USC: “Oregon and USC have been my dream school since I was a kid. Getting those offers were crazy. Oregon I know they produce a lot of good receivers. I know if you go there you’ll be coached by some of the best coaches along with USC. Lincoln Riley we’ve been talking a lot. A legendary coach like Lincoln Riley that means a lot.”
Duke: “They’re a pass offense which I like. When I went down they were talking about how I could be really involved in the offense.”
