The Big Ten will control how the College Football Playoff looks

Georgia, now 10-0 on the season, remains the clear favorite to win a national championship through 11 weeks. The Bulldogs have matchups against Charleston Southern and Georgia Tech remaining, so they are likely to enter the SEC Championship game at 12-0. Alabama, meanwhile, has two touch matchups remaining against Arkansas and Auburn. The Crimson Tide need to win out, including the SEC Championship game, to have a spot in the playoff. Although it’s feasible to believe that a two loss Alabama team can make it in even with a loss to Georgia.

Ohio State’s performance against Purdue inspired a lot of confidence, but the true test begins now. The Buckeyes face off against Michigan State and Michigan over the next two weeks. Michigan State must also face Penn State in the final week of the regular season. Ohio State and Michigan have the best chance out of the three Big Ten contenders to make the playoff. But if one of them wants to make it in, they’ll have to win both remaining regular season games in addition to the Big Ten title.

Oregon has a sneaky tough matchup looming against Utah in Week 12. The Ducks then end the regular season against Oregon State. Oregon is in a good position to make the playoff if it can win out, as the Big Ten could simply eat itself alive and beat itself up beyond repair. Cincinnati, meanwhile, is in a tough position. While SMU would be a quality win for the Bearcats, will it be enough? A win would give Cincinnati a spot in the AAC Championship against Houston, providing another opportunity for a quality win. But if Cincinnati slips at all against SMU or East Carolina, their playoff hopes are done.

Oklahoma lost to Baylor on Saturday, but the Sooners are still seemingly alive. The Sooners must beat Iowa State this week and then a huge game against Oklahoma State awaits in the last week of the regular season. The game could be big for both teams, as both have at least a slight chance at making a run at the playoff. Notre Dame is still alive as well, although the Irish will need help. Winning out to get to 11-1 would be impressive, but chaos would have to ensue among the other contenders for there to be a path.
