The College Football Playoff had two replacements to make on their Selection Committee for this upcoming season. Those new members have now been named in a release this morning by the CFP.

Nebraska AD Troy Dannen as well as Jeff Long will be the additions to the CFP Selection Committee. They will join that committee, with Long doing so on a one-year basus, ahead of next season in working to eventually select the field for the 2025 College Football Playoff.

“The College Football Playoff (CFP) Management Committee has appointed Troy Dannen, athletics director at the University of Nebraska, and Jeff Long, long-time college administrator and former athletics director at the University of Kansas, University of Arkansas and the University of Pittsburgh, to the CFP Selection Committee, it was announced today by Rich Clark, executive director of the CFP,” read the release on Monday.

“We are pleased to have Troy and Jeff join the committee,” said Clark. “Troy brings a long commitment to college athletics to our group and previous experience as a member of the FCS Selection Committee, while Jeff, as the first chairman of the CFP selection committee (2014-15) will step in immediately and provide an experienced voice in the room.”

Dannen is finishing his first season as the athletic director for the Cornhuskers after replacing Trev Alberts following him leaving for Texas A&M. He came after a short stint spent at Washington after previous work done at Tulane and Northern Iowa. His resumé also includes work, as a chair or committee member, on the the NCAA Constitution Committee, the Division I Transformation Committee, the NCAA Football Competition Committee, and the Football Oversight Committee.

Long, who is currently working as a consultant, was then formerly an athletic director himself at Kansas, Arkansas, Pitt, and Eastern Kentucky for over two decades from 1998 to 2021. He has also been an administrator at schools like Rice, Virginia Tech, and Oklahoma as well as a football coach in capacities at Miami (OH), NC State, Duke, and Michigan. He has served on committees as well as a member of the NCAA Management Council, the NCAA’s Sports Wagering Task Force, and the NCAA Championships/Sports Management Cabinet.

Dannen and Long will respectively replace the seats of Damon Evans, the new athletic director at SMU, and Steve Wieberg. They will now be a part of the group of people who will make the rankings and eventually seed the field for the 2025 College Football Playoff. That bracket will lead to two teams who will play for the national championship in Miami to start next year on January 19th, 2026.
