Wide receiver injuries are beginning to pile up for LSU in Tuscaloosa. Aaron Anderson left the game in the first half after landing on his left arm. Now, it’s Nic Anderson who is down for the count after making a third-quarter catch. He immediately grabbed his right knee and looked to be in an immense amount of pain.

LSU trainers came out onto the field to help out Anderson, while the ABC broadcast went to commercial. Initially, no update was provided on the other side as the Tigers’ drive continued. However, we eventually saw Anderson behind the LSU bench on a cart, getting taken back to the locker room. Not what interim head coach Frank Wilson needs as his offense continues to struggle vs. Alabama.

***UPDATE*** Later in the fourth quarter, ABC play-by-play commentator Sean McDonough confirmed Anderson was done for the night. They then showed him in street clothes on crutches. Exactly what injury Anderson sustained was not revealed. Either way, not a great sign for LSU.

Anderson entered the 2025 season with some hype around his name. A nice pickup out of the NCAA transfer portal, he came to Baton Rouge with plenty of potential. We saw some of it play out while with the Oklahoma Sooners before injuries hampered Anderson for most of 2024.

Unfortunately, LSU has not gotten much out of their investment. In eight games played, only 10 catches pop up on the stat sheet for Anderson. Those went for a total of 74 yards and two touchdowns. Scoring against Ole Miss might turn out to be his highest moment, also getting one vs. Louisiana Tech during the nonconference portion of the schedule.

LSU makes quarterback change during Alabama game

Shortly after a heated moment moment between Nussmeier and Wilson, LSU decided to go to the bench. Michael Van Buren is now at quarterback for the Tigers. A massive move for the program, potentially having implications for the rest of the season.

If Nussmeier does not take the field again at Bryant-Denny Stadium, his night finishes with quite a disappointing stat line. He threw 21 passes, completing 18 of them. However, not much came from those, going for a total of 121 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions.

Van Burnen possibly brings something Nussmeier does not — mobility. A struggling offensive line has been a storyline all season and Nussmeier does not evade pressure too well. Wilson might believe Van Buren’s ability to extend plays does LSU better in the long run.
