No. 1 2027 wrestling prospect Melvin Miller reveals top nine schools

Melvin Miller, the No. 1 overall wrestling prospect in the Class of 2027 per MatScouts, announced his top nine schools as his recruitment opened. The contact period for juniors opened this week and Miller had no shortage of calls.
However, it didn’t take long for him to narrow down where he could potentially go. A mix of conferences are in the running for the uber talented wrestler.
Miller is listed at 157 pounds, meaning he is likely projected at that weight or 165 for college wrestling. For all we know, he could go to 174! Here’s a look at his top nine schools.
“I am focused, drive and know exactly what I want and what I am looking for,” Miller wrote. His Instagram post can be seen here.
Miller listed Michigan, Pittsburgh, Missouri, Arizona State, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Iowa, Nebraska and NC State. Iowa could be the team to watch considering Miller is the younger brother of Bo Bassett, the No. 2 overall prospect in the Class of 2026 (previously No. 1), who committed to Iowa in February.
Bassett’s other younger brother Keegan is in the Class of 2028, but it’s largely assumed he’ll follow Bo to Iowa. As far as Miller is concerned, Iowa will firmly be in the mix with the others.
Hailing out of Bishop McCort High School (Pa.), Miller is a two-time state champion at 152 and 160 pounds over the last two years. He has a career record of 106-4 through two seasons, per PA-Wrestling.

Iowa would bode well to add Miller to 157 or 165 pounds, giving him a chance to start right away as a true freshman. The 2025-26 lineup will look totally different compared to the 2027-28 lineup. This winter’s projected starters are below:
125: Dean Peterson, Sr. (Rutgers transfer)
133: Drake Ayala, Sr.
141: Nasir Bailey, Jr. (Little Rock transfer)
149: Jordan Williams, Jr. (Little Rock transfer)/Sammy Alvarez, Sr. (Rider transfer)
157: Victor Voinovich, Sr./Sammy Alvarez, Sr. (Rider transfer)
165: Mikey Caliendo, Sr.
174: Patrick Kennedy, Sr./Gabe Arnold, So.
184: Angelo Ferrari, RS-Fr./Gabe Arnold, So.
197: Massoma Endene, Sr.
285: Ben Kueter, So.
As you can see, Miller could slide right into the middle of the lineup, surrounded by veterans (in two years time of course). Iowa is no stranger to landing highly touted prospects.
Miller’s other teammate Jax Forrest, the No. 1 prospect in 2026, is committed to Oklahoma State. Forrest will also wrestle two-time NCAA champion Vito Arujau (Cornell) in a delayed best-of-three from Final X next month to determine the 61 KG Senior World Team USA spot.
