North Carolina forward Ven-Allen Lubin plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, per Jeff Goodman. In a unique twist, he also announced that his intent is to remain with the program.

“Before anybody jumps to the wrong conclusion, I am letting everyone know that I am entering the transfer portal with full intent on returning to UNC,” Lubin told Goodman. “My action relates to the complexities surrounding the possible approval of the pending NCAA settlement.”

The junior forward spent one season with the Tar Heels in 2024-25, following a year apiece at both Vanderbilt and Notre Dame. With UNC, he started in 20 of the team’s 37 games while averaging 8.7 points and 5.5 rebounds in just under 20 minutes per game. That was a significant dropoff from his lone season at Vanderbilt, where he poured in 12.7 points and 6.3 rebounds while starting every game and playing more than 28 minutes per contest.

However, his efficiency went up significantly with the Heels, as he shot better than 68% from the field and was one of the ACC’s leaders in two-point field goals made. He was poised for an even bigger role next season, but the Tar Heels have loaded up in the frontcourt at the both the power forward and center positions. In addition to landing Five-Star Plus+ forward Caleb Wilson out of the prep ranks, Hubert Davis also snagged Alabama forward Jarin Stevenson and Arizona big man transfer Henri Veesaar out of the portal.

That creates a significant logjam for minutes, creating an opportunity for Lubin to find a bigger role elsewhere. Now he enters the portal looking for his fourth team in as many years, and will have one season of eligibility left at his next destination.
