The Oregon Duck was the laughing stock of Week 1 after the mascot lost its head running out of the tunnel ahead of the Ducks’ season opener against Montana State. Two weeks later, and the beloved Oregon mascot is still the butt of the joke.

During Oregon’s road trip to Northwestern during Week 3, their mascot, Willie the Wildcat, let Oregon’s mascot know they haven’t forgotten about the viral moment just yet. The Oregon Duck had a sign labeled ‘Head Home’ with the mascot illustrated on the poster with its head on the ground.

It’s all fun and games for the Northwestern mascot until looking at the scoreboard. The Ducks are dominating Saturday’s matchup and scored the first 34 points of the game. Northwestern didn’t find the end zone until midway through the fourth quarter.

A similar story has been told in each of Oregon’s three games so far. Following the Duck’s head coming off, Oregon outpaced Montana State 59-13 before turning around to beat Oklahoma State 69-3 during Week 2. Saturday’s game against Northwestern was never close after halftime.

By the time Northwestern got on the board, Oregon had already subbed out its starters. At this point, fans were waiting until the clock struck zero — including the Oregon Duck himself. Despite this, the Wildcats were able to find themselves back on the board by the end of the game.

In the end, Oregon would defeat Northwestern 34-14. Ducks QB Dante Moore finished the game completing 16 of his 20 passes for one touchdown and an interception. RB Dierre Hill Jr. added five carries for 94 yards and a touchdown on the afternoon as well.

It’s safe to say the team is off to a hot start after the blunder from its mascot. It’s one of the only mishaps Oregon has had to face this year — which is saying something given it didn’t happen on the football field.

Moving forward, the Duck will likely watch his steps a little closer. Meanwhile, the Ducks will be looking to stomp on each of its opponents remaining on their schedule.

Looking ahead, Oregon has matchups at No. 2 Penn State and vs. No. 22 Indiana — the only two ranked matchups on left on their schedule as of this report. Oregon avoids Ohio State on their regular season schedule, though it’s a possibility that they could play each other in the conference championship game.
