Ohio State fans troll Dave Portnoy with yard signs, flag after Buckeyes beat Michigan

It looks like some Ohio State fans were eager to rub the Buckeyes’ win Saturday in the face of known Michigan fan Dave Portnoy. Portnoy, who is the owner of Barstool Sports, posted a photo to X of his home when signs placed about his yard.

Among the signs included one that read “Ryan Day lives here rent free,” and another that said “Ryan Day is my Papa.” One fan even left an Ohio State flag planted in the yard.

The post from Portnoy came after a dominant 27-9 win from Ohio State on Saturday. It was particularly meaningful considering it snapped a four-game losing streak for the Buckeyes in the rivalry and also helped them finish undefeated and reach the Big Ten Championship game.

Michigan actually held a 6-3 lead after the opening quarter, but it was all Ohio State from there. Buckeyes QB Julian Sayin led the way to finish 19-of-26 passing for 233 yards and three touchdowns with one interception.

Michigan still owns a 62-52-6 all-time series lead in the rivalry against Ohio State, but this year belongs to the Buckeyes. Especially given how vocal Portnoy has been in his disdain for OSU, it looks like some fans gave him a little payback.

Dave Portnoy speaks on Michigan loss to Ohio State: ‘All good things must come to an end’

Portnoy was part of a live stream during the game between the Buckeyes and Wolverines on Saturday. But when it became apparent Michigan was going to lose, many noticed that he left early.

Portnoy came on social media after the game to address the loss and explain that he only left to catch a flight. Wearing a Wolverine costume, the Michigan super fan expressed his disappointment while also giving some props to Ohio State at the end.

“I had to leave the stream. People probably think, ‘Oh, he’s leaving.’ I had a flight I had to catch,” he said. “Obviously, if it was close I would have stayed. Listen, they kicked our ass today. Now, if the refs didn’t cheat on that touchdown and call that a touchback, do we put some pressure on them and they start feeling it? Maybe, but that would have been a miracle for us. So they were better in all three phases.

“They hadn’t beat us since the days of COVID. I guess I knew they’d beat us again once eventually in the rest of my life. It was this one. Ohio State and Ryan Day, the only way we were gonna beat them is if they choked. Looked like they were gonna choke in the first quarter, they just didn’t. … All good things must come to an end. Ohio State now, they’ll probably be arrogant. Whatever. That’s the game. That’s the rivalry. They beat us. No excuses.”
