Oklahoma to be without star player for remainder of season

The Oklahoma Sooners will be without one of their star players, Elijah Harkless, for the remainder of the 2021-2022 season due to injury, per Jon Rothstein. Harkless also announced the news on Friday afternoon via his Twitter page. There’s no further information given by Harkless on the injury other than the fact that it was a “recent injury”.

Harkless is one of the best players on Oklahoma’s rosterand his loss is a crushing blow to the Sooners’ slim hopes of making the NCAA Tournament. He averaged 10 points per game and 4.1 rebounds per game this season.

“First and foremost we are all hurting for Elijah,” said Oklahoma men’s basketball coach Porter Moser. “He is such a competitor and his spirit is such an integral part of our team. It is hard for any athlete to have their season to come to an abrupt end. We will be praying for a speedy recovery.”

He will have an extra year of eligibility due to Covid-19. He transferred to Oklahoma in 2020 after two seasons with Cal-State Northridge. With Harkless out, the Sooners will likely turn to junior forward Jacob Groves.

At the moment, Oklahoma currently sits at 14-14 overall and 4-11 in the Big 12 Conference.
