Peyton Prescott injury update: Florida State reliever will have Tommy John surgery in July

Florida State right-handed pitcher Peyton Prescott will undergo Tommy John surgery early next month, according to MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo. Prescott exited Florida State‘s Corvallis Super Regional Final game against Oregon State early with an arm injury back in early June.
He pitched just 2/3 inning before catcher Jaxson West, head coach Link Jarrett and their athletic trainer quickly ushered him back to the dugout.
“I hope so,” Jarrett responded when asked if Prescott would be alright. “Our orthopedic doctor is with us, so that’s good. They’re doing some assessments and stuff like that. I hope he’s okay. You don’t ever like to see that. I’m quite frankly sick in my stomach right now in two areas. That being number one, the result being a close second, but it’s second.”
Prescott transferred to Florida State after playing his freshman season at Jacksonville, where he was named to the ASUN All-Freshman team. In 2025, the righty appeared in 25 games, making one start with three saves over 36.2 innings pitched. He’d finish his sophomore season with a 5.15 ERA and 46 strikeouts compared to 17 walks and a .290 opponents’ batting average.

He’ll now undergo Tommy John surgery, which typically involves a 12-18 month recovery period. This would rule Prescott out for the entirety of next season, likely marking the 2026 season as a redshirt year for the Sebastian, FL native. In the Super Regional against Oregon State, he made two appearances and pitched 2.2 innings before suffering the injury.
This season, Florida State advanced to a Super Regional for the second consecutive year, downing Northeastern, Mississippi State and Bethune-Cookman in the Tallahassee Regional. This set up a match against Oregon State, which was looking for its first Men’s College World Series trip since 2018 (won National Championship).
The Seminoles dropped the opening game in extra innings before taking home a low-scoring second game. In their final loss of the season, Game 3 of the Super Regional, the Beavers jumped out to a 13-3 lead by the end of the third inning as the Seminoles struggled to find a pitcher who could stop the bleeding. Still, they’d fight back and make it a 14-10 game at the end. It was just too little, too late.
