College football fans across the country can’t wait for the third-ranked Clemson Tigers and the fifth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs game on Saturday night. ESPN’s Rece Davis and the College GameDay crew chimed in with their thoughts before one of the most anticipated games of the college football season.

JT Daniels will face his toughest defense yet

The conversation centered around Georgia quarterback JT Daniels and how he’ll handle the mighty Clemson defense, one of the best front sevens in college football. Davis thinks the Clemson defense will be a step up from any defense Daniels faced last season.

JT certainly energized the Georgia offense last year, but it was not against the greatest defenses in the world,” Davis said. “I don’t say that to cast disparages or say I don’t think he can do it. We just haven’t seen him against the level of defense that he is going to see tomorrow night.”

Daniels needs to make quick decisions with the football

What is Davis looking for from Daniels when he watches tomorrow night?

“I’m looking for quick decisions, getting rid of the ball, being accurate, getting rid of the ball, getting rid of the ball against this defensive front for Clemson,” he said. “And that’s going to go for D.J. [Uiagalelei] as well. Georgia can get after D.J. [Uiagalelei] just as easily as Clemson can get after Daniels.”

Is Georgia a legitimate national title contender?

Davis said that no matter what, college football fans will get the answers as to whether or not Georgia is a legitimate national championship contender. One of the best defenses Daniels faced last year was the Cincinnati defense in the Peach Bowl.

Cincinnati was a very good defense,” the ESPN announcer said. “They were missing some pieces. This will be a full strength Clemson defense. It will give us a great clue whether Georgia is not only a contender but perhaps one of the favorites for the national championship.”

PFF expressed concern about Daniels

PFF expressed some concern about Daniels film coming into the 2021 college football season. Here’s what they had to say about him.

“Daniels certainly has the arm to hit goballs along the sideline and takes his downfield shots, but temper any hype of him leading Georgia to a national championship,” Anthony Treash wrote. “His four turnover-worthy plays and sub-50.0 grade in the Peach Bowl against Cincinnati — the only “great” defense he faced in four games last season — back that up.”

Regardless of all the talk, hype and hoopla, both teams will get their chance to show what they can do tomorrow night on the football field.

Georgia and Clemson are set to square off on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 7:30 p.m. EST. The game will be nationally televised on ABC.
