Report: Former Ohio State football player Kirk Barton charged with aggravated vehicular homicide

Former Ohio State football player Kirk Barton was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide in Dublin, Ohio, according to NBC 4-WCMH. This incident reportedly occurred early Saturday morning.
“Barton, 40, of Lewis Center, is suspected of driving a Ford F150 Raptor pickup truck ‘at a high rate of speed’ eastbound on U.S. 33 before entering Historic Dublin just before 3 a.m.,” Acva Boldizar of WCHM wrote. “He then struck a Lexus on West Bridge Street, just west of Franklin Street, according to the City of Dublin.
“The driver of the Lexus, 24-year-old Ethan Perry, was pronounced dead at the scene. Barton sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was later released from a local hospital into police custody.”
According to Franklin County court records, Barton was charged with a second-degree felony count of aggravated vehicular homicide as a result of operating his vehicle under the influence. His arraignment was scheduled for Monday at 9 a.m. local time.
Barton, 40, played for the Buckeyes from 2003-07 before going into the 2008 NFL Draft. A First-Team All-American in 2007, Barton generated some draft buzz at the tail end of his college career.

Barton was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 7th round but later had stints with the Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers and Cincinnati Bengals in 2007. He signed with the Detroit Lions and 49ers again in 2009, but was not on the 53-man roster.
The same went for Barton in 2010 when he signed with the Lions again, Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers. His pro career did not last past the 2010 NFL season.
Barton graduated from the high school class of 2003. He played his school football at Perry High School in Massillon, Ohio.
