Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss push back team meeting scheduled for Sunday morning about future
The team meeting for Ole Miss set for 10 a.m. ET has been moved to later in the day, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel and Marty Smith. It’s now set for 2 p.m. ET, On3’s Pete Nakos reports.
Late Saturday night, multiple sources told On3’s Chris Low, Brett McMurphy and Nakos that LSU “intends to hire” Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin to be their coach next season. The meeting is expected to see Kiffin reveal the news of his decision to his team and staff.
This comes after Ole Miss AD Keith Carter and chancellor Glenn Boyce met with Kiffin met on Saturday for several hours. Per Nakos, this extended meeting centered around coaching in CFP. His contract with LSU is expected to make him among the highest-paid coaches in college football.
With multiple reports leaning heavily toward Kiffin heading to LSU, the bigger question now is whether or not the Rebels’ brass will allow him to coach his team in the College Football Playoff. According to McMurphy, Kiffin is “essentially demanding to finish the season (w/Ole Miss) while simultaneously threatening to poach” the Ole Miss’ roster and staff if he can’t.
Whatever his decision mat be, what can’t be denied is that Kiffin just led the Rebels to an 11-win regular season and have the College Football Playoff looming. Despite being in contention for a national championship, there seems to be a real possibility that Kiffin may not be a part of that effort.

The Rebels are currently on track to host a first-round College Football Playoff game after finishing the regular season 11-1 overall. Ole Miss won’t be a part of the SEC Championship game despite its record, as Alabama’s win over Auburn in the Iron Bowl pushed the Crimson Tide into the title game vs. Georgia.
That means the next time we’ll see the Ole Miss football team in action will be during the CFP. Whether Kiffin is on the sidelines for that matchup, or if he’s in Baton Rouge setting up his staff and roster, remains to be seen.
For now, we’ll all have to wait for the outcome of the 2 p.m. ET meeting. Pushed back several hours from its initial start time, Kiffin was originally expected to announce his decision by the end of the day on Saturday.
