Florida State and Texas A&M are two programs in college basketball that will be under new leadership starting in 2025-2026. They’ll now be playing one another in each of the next two seasons to start off the respective tenures of their coaches.

Per reporting by Jon Rothstein at CBS Sports, Texas A&M and Florida State have scheduled a neutral-site series over the next pair of years. The Aggies will reportedly play the Seminoles in Tampa on November 28th, before FSU returns the favor in the state of Texas, to be announced later on in 2026.

“Texas A&M and Florida State will start a neutral site series on Nov. 28th in Tampa, a source told College Hoops Today. An official announcement is expected soon,” Rothstein wrote on Friday. “There will be a return game in the state of Texas at location that is currently TBD during the 2026-27 season.”

These two teams have met four times in history, with three of those being neutral-site games. Texas A&M won the first game ever in Tallahassee back in December of 1956 but Florida State leads the series having won each of the last three in Houston in January of 1974, in Birmingham in December of 1977, and in Chicago in the opening round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament. That was the final game for A&M under Mark Turgeon.

Again, both of these programs went through coaching changes this offseason. Texas A&M hired Samford’s Bucky McMillan after Buzz Williams left following six seasons to take the head coaching job at Maryland. Florida State then hired Luke Loucks, an alumnus of the program from 2009-2012, from the NBA after the retirement of Leonard Hamilton.

With that, the programs have each undergone major changes to their rosters. College Station, after also losing several seniors, saw 10 transfers in and seven transfers out in the portal for a Top 50 class. Tallahassee then has seven transfers in, following nine transfers going out for a Top 20 class. Those ratings come from On3’s 2025 Team Transfer Portal Rankings. Each also has a pair of freshmen incoming.

Of the upcoming schedules for each of the schools for year one under their new coaches, these will also be at least their second games against the other conference in 2025. That’s with the announcement this week of the matchups in the ACC/SEC Challenge, with Texas A&M going to Pittsburgh and Florida State hosting Georgia.

The Aggies and Seminoles made two of the more highly-regarded hires during the coaching carousel this spring. They’ll now get to settle who has done a better job early on with a game on the court against one another towards the end of November.
