You might expect a ton of maroon to pack into Kyle Field when Texas A&M plays host to Mississippi State. However, the Aggies are getting ready for a blackout. Fans across the stadium and the team itself are ready for the once-a-season occurrence.

There are a lot of reasons to get excited about this one. Jeff Lebby‘s offensive scheme going up against Mike Elko is a big one, fitting to be an entertaining battle. A buffed-up Mississippi State defense opposing Marcel Reed might provide a few sparks as well.

Before then, there are a few injuries both programs are dealing with. Wednesday brought the initial injury report, the first of four before the 6:30 p.m. CT kickoff. You can check out the full report here.

More on recent history between Mississippi State, Texas A&M

Ever since Texas A&M joined the SEC in 2012, this has been one of the more entertaining matchups. Playing together in the SEC West meant it was an annual meeting, only to be paired up when the conference got rid of divisions. Unfortunately, we will not see them play during the 2026 season due to the new nine-game schedule.

The all-time series is currently tied at nine. But five of those games were during the 20th century. Texas A&M holds the lead since the two became conference members, 6-7. Not too long ago, Mississippi State had the lead but two straight wins by the Aggies pushed it back in their favor.

Particular to this fixture, winning in College Station has never been much of an issue for Mississippi State. A win on Saturday would mean three of the last five road trips have resulted in a win. Lebby remains on the hunt for his first SEC victory as the program’s head coach, hoping Kyle Field is the venue.

However, Elko continues to do a great job winning at home — especially in games Texas A&M expects to win. Only Notre Dame and Texas have beaten the Aggies in their own building since Elko took over last year — bookending the regular season. Everyone else walks out on the losing end, only for 100,000 Aggies to follow them out happy as can be.
