The SEC has named their Football Players of the Week after Week 7. There were some awesome performances throughout the southeast, so it wasn’t easy to discern who should be chosen. Check out the selections from the conference below.

Offensive

Simpson led Alabama to its third straight Top-25 win, guiding the Crimson Tide past No. 14 Missouri by a score of 27-24. He completed 23 of 31 passes for 200 yards and three touchdowns, connecting with nine different receivers in the process. He also went 3-for-3 on fourth down, including the game-winning score, and added 10 rushes with a team-long 20-yard run.

Defensive

Muhammad was outstanding in Texas’ 23-6 win over No. 6 Oklahoma, hauling in two interceptions, adding a tackle for loss and breaking up a pass to help shut down the Sooners’ offense. His first interception came in the first quarter to stall an OU drive, while his second — in the end zone before halftime — stopped a potential scoring chance and kept the game close.

Special Teams

Niblett electrified the Cotton Bowl with a 75-yard punt return touchdown that put Texas up 20-6 in its 23-6 win over No. 6 Oklahoma — just the third punt return score by a Longhorn ever against the Sooners. He also added a 22-yard kickoff return and now leads the SEC in punt return average (21.6 yards) while ranking 11th nationally in combined kick return yards (328).

Gilbert was perfect on the day, going 4-for-4 on PATs and 2-for-2 on field goals, including a clutch 50-yarder, to lift Tennessee over Arkansas. He’s now 10-of-12 on the season and a perfect 2-for-2 from beyond 50 yards.

Offensive Line

Freeling anchored Georgia’s offensive line with four knockdown blocks and didn’t allow a single pressure or sack in the Bulldogs’ 20-10 win at Auburn. Despite Georgia using six different offensive line combinations in six games, he helped protect quarterback Gunner Stockton for 291 total yards and a perfect 3-for-3 red-zone performance.

Defensive Line

Simmons dominated with 2.5 sacks and five total tackles to help Texas shut down No. 6 Oklahoma in a 23-6 victory. He consistently came up big in key moments, including a pair of late sacks that killed Sooner drives as the Longhorns held OU to just 258 total yards.

Hayes filled the stat sheet with two tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and a recovery while posting a 91.1 defensive grade from Pro Football Focus in Texas A&M’s win over Florida. He anchored a ferocious defense that held the Gators to just 74 rushing yards, 1-of-10 on third down, and 3.2 yards per play over the final three quarters.

Freshman

Staley broke out for the first 100-yard game of his career, catching six passes for 109 yards in Tennessee’s 34-31 win over Arkansas. Five of those receptions — including a 42-yard grab, the second-longest of his career — came in the first half.
