Shedeur Sanders snaps back at people 'making up stories' after press conference

Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders partially walked back some comments he made in the wake of a 28-10 loss to Nebraska on Saturday, while also attributing some of the subsequent scrutiny to people ‘making stories up.’
Sanders took to his 2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders podcast to clear the air a bit after the game.
The primary comment in question was his explanation of a pick-six early in the game that proved rather costly for the Buffaloes. After the game, Sanders appeared to place some of the blame for the miscue on freshman receiver Dre’lon Miller, calling it “a rookie mistake.”
“I think they just took it and ran with it,” Sanders said on his podcast. “Because I remember saying it was a rookie mistake. I didn’t say the rookie made a mistake, you know? So I’m saying it’s like a rookie mistake, that’s childish, I should have never done that. But I’m not going to go on social media and go argue with them fans about that. That just what it it is.”

The comments drew immediate scrutiny from college football fans around the world, as it appeared to be Shedeur Sanders at least partially deflecting blame for the costly mistake.
As it turns out, Sanders believes his comments weren’t all that untoward, though he himself admitted he shouldn’t have said it.

“Thankful to have a platform to where I’m really able to express and say what was actually said, rather than people just making up stories and just doing anything just to kind of divide the team,” Sanders said.
He did take ownership of the comments.
“I put that on myself also, because it’s like I gave them room to where I could understand they took it like that,” Shedeur Sanders said. “But that wasn’t the intention of it.”
His podcast co-host then asked the pertinent and obvious follow-up question: Is there damage control you have to do now in the locker room to make sure everyone remains on the same page?
“Not really, not really, because I feel like all the players know your intentions and they know you wouldn’t do anything crazy like that,” Shedeur Sanders said. “They’re going to take my words and say it however they want to, but at the end of the day the players know everything’s genuine. And I know what I said genuinely, so it is what it is.”
