As the conference schedule debate continues, Michigan coach Sherrone Moore echoed a similar sentiment to his Big Ten counterparts. He called for a “uniform” plan across the country.

Moore wants to see every league “do the same thing” to help with fair evaluations. The Big Ten currently plays nine conference games, as does the Big 12, while the SEC and ACC both play eight league games per year.

Conference schedules particularly play a role in the College Football Playoff conversation, On3’s Brett McMurphy previously reported. To Moore, the answer is making sure everyone plays the same amount of league games, no matter the number.

“I just hope that it’s uniform – that there’s not a conference playing eight, there’s a conference playing nine, there’s conferences playing FCS, there’s conferences playing Group of 5,” Moore said on SiriusXM College Sports Radio. “Let’s all do the same thing. … [With] our nine conference games and everybody else is playing eight conference games, it’s like, ‘Well, that 6-3 team in the Big Ten looks better than the 7-2 or 8-1 team in the other conferences.’ I think for us, as the whole institution of college football, we’ve got to get aligned on what we want to do.

“Nine conference games, if we’re going to do that, we’re going to do it. If we’re going to do eight, we’re going to do eight. But let’s all do it together and not skip around and do all these different things to get an advantage.”

The amount of conference games has particularly come up between the Big Ten and SEC, which have the bulk of control around the CFP. The SEC is pushing for a 5-plus-11 model, which would include the five highest-ranked conference champions and 11 at-large teams in the 16-team bracket.

Meanwhile, the Big Ten is pushing for a 4-4-2-2-1 format, which also includes play-in games. The Big Ten and SEC would get four bids each under that model while the Big 12 and ACC would get two apiece. The Group of 6 would get one spot, and there would be three at-large teams. Earlier this month, McMurphy reported the Big Ten will not support the 5-plus-11 format if the SEC doesn’t go to a nine-game schedule.

Sherrone Moore is among the list of Big Ten coaches who spoke out about the need for a consistent schedule across all conferences. Penn State coach James Franklin also did so, along with Indiana’s Curt Cignetti while voicing his support for the idea of play-in games under the 4-4-2-2-1 format.
