Kendric Davis entered the transfer portal and was contacted by top programs around the country after being the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year. On Monday, the former SMU guard cut his list down to seven schools but made a revised version on Wednesday morning, with a final decision coming on Friday.

The Houston Cougars, Kansas Jayhawks, Memphis Tigers, TCU Horned Frogs, and Texas Tech Red Raiders are still in the running for Davis, he told Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports. Gonzaga and Texas are the two schools to get the boot and will no longer be considered.

If Houston or Memphis ends up being the selection, Davis will be spending another year in the AAC. He’s spent the past three seasons in the conference and would have a familiarity heading into his final year of college basketball.

On the flip side, even if he goes out of conference, staying inside his home state of Texas is a large possibility. Outside of the Cougars, TCU and Texas Tech would provide options, being closer to home compared to Kansas or Memphis.

More on Kendric Davis

Davis has already been through the transfer portal process, spending one season with TCU coming out of high school. Now, there is a possibility of him returning to the other half of the rivalry, with the Horned Frogs being included in the final list. He ended up playing in 37 games for TCU during the 2018-2019 season, averaging 6.3 points and 2.0 assists per game.

Davis is the No. 60 overall player to enter during the cycle according to the On3 transfer portal rankings. From the point guard position, he ranks at No. 9 and is still one of the best available.

Davis played and started in 32 games for SMU last season, leading the AAC in scoring at 19.4 points per game. He additionally finished third in the conference with 4.4 assists per game. Davis was also to win the AAC Player of the Year for his performances.

The Mustangs were not able to make the NCAA Tournament after a late push in conference play. Davis put a bow to his SMU career in the NIT, dropping 30 points against the Washington State Cougars. Now, he will be looking to bring his elite scoring to another big-time program.

Where the On3 RPM stands

The On3 RPM is currently 100% in favor of Memphis, partly thanks to an official visit taken on April 14. If there are any other visits scheduled before Friday’s decision, Davis has yet to announce them.

One prediction has been placed by On The Pony Express‘ Billy Embody, choosing the Tigers with a confidence level of 75%.
