Stanford LB Lance Keneley commits to Arizona

LB Lance Keneley has committed to Arizona out of the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Kenely made the announcement of his choice of the Wildcats in a post on social media on Sunday.

Keneley had spent the past four seasons at a fellow former Pac-12 program in Stanford.

While with the Cardinal, Keneley appeared in 32 games, including 11 starts on their defense. A dozen of those came last fall as a senior when he started in the team’s first nine games.

In the last three seasons, Keneley has totaled 67 tackles, eight of those being for loss, and 2.5 sacks. During his latest campaign, he posted career highs with 35 tackles, with four of those being for losses, and 1.5 sacks over his 12 outings.

Keneley, a native of Mission Viejo, California, was a three-star prospect coming out of high school. He was the No. 820 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also rated as a Top-75 DE and prospect out of the state.

Keneley was one of 13 transfers to leave Stanford this offseason after year one under Troy Taylor. Nine of those were from the defense, which finished as one of the worst units in the nation as they allowed 37.7 points per game.

As for Arizona, Keneley is now the 15th portal addition from this offseason under their new head coach in Brent Brennan. Nine of those are defensive players with six for the line and a trio for the secondary. The Wildcats have picked up three defensive linemen in UC Davis’ Chubba Maae, Syracuse’s Kevon Darton, Memphis’ Jarra Anderson along with a pair of defensive ends in San José State’s Tre Smith, who came with Brennan from with the Spartans, and Utah’s Chase Kennedy.

That comes after Arizona lost 17 players from their Top-30 defense in their final season under Jedd Fisch. Seven apiece left from the secondary and defensive line while three left from their linebacking corps. The three linebackers were Anthony Ward, who followed Fisch to Washington, along with Daniel Heimuli and Ammon Allen.
