(Brianna Paciorka/News Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images) Tennessee players line up before game one of the NCAA baseball tournament Fayetteville Super Regional between Tennessee and Arkansas held at Baum-Walker Stadium on Saturday, June 7, 2025.

Tennessee infielder Alex Perry announced he will enter the NCAA transfer portal. He announced the news on his Twitter account on Tuesday.

Perry did not play for the Volunteers in 2025 after stepping away from the program for a “personal matter.” But he was a member of the program’s 2024 national title team.

“After my first season without baseball, I can’t wait to be back on the diamond,” Perry wrote. “I’ve decided to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal with two years of eligibility remaining as a SS/3B. Please direct all interest to my advisor.”

Alex Perry was a contributor for Tennessee during its title run. He made only 10 plate appearances but managed to hit .286 with three RBI. He was on the active roster in Omaha for the College World Series.

He had the potential to start for the Volunteers in 2025 after a strong fall, but he instead opted to step away from the program in January. He cited a “personal matter.”

The transfer portal entry by Alex Perry brings Tennessee to double-digit departures following the 2025 season. But the Volunteers have brought in some talent too.

Tennessee lands quality transfer catcher

While Alex Perry is headed out from the program, Bowling Green transfer catcher Garrett Wright is headed in. Wright played the past two seasons for the Falcons and will have two more years of eligibility remaining.

The catcher is a two-time first team All-MAC performer and won the MAC Defensive Player of the Year this past season. He was also the only player in the entire conference with a batting average above .400, sitting at .406 with 82 hits and 48 RBI. He holds the Bowling Green program records for doubles (20) in 2025 and the all-time hit by pitch mark with 49 in two seasons.

Wright also won the MAC Freshman of the Year in 2024 after batting .380 with 28 RBI. He has a total of 14 home runs across the past two seasons combined as well and will look to made an immediate impact for Tony Vitello and the Vols in 2026.
