Terrell Buckley, a former NFL star cornerback and veteran college defensive backs coach, is expected to be hired as head coach of the XFL’s Orlando franchise, a source tells On3.

Buckley, who was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2019 based on his accomplishments as a player at Florida State from 1989-91, was selected by the Green Bay Packers with the No. 5 overall pick in the 1992 NFL draft. He played 13 seasons in the NFL with the Packers, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, New York Jets and New York Giants and finished his career with 50 interceptions.

Most recently, Buckley has been a defensive backs coach at Ole Miss (2020-21), Mississippi State (2016-19) and Louisville (2014-15).

The XFL, which had to cancel its season after five games in 2020, is set to relaunch in 2023.
