Top 10 transfer portal impact players of Week 8

In the new age of college football, the transfer portal has become a major piece of roster construction. Throughout the college football season, On3 is breaking down the top 10 transfer portal impact players based on weekly performances. Here are the most impactful transfer portal players from Week 8:
1. BYU QB Bear Bachmeier
The true freshman and former Stanford transfer led BYU to his first win in the Holy War. Bear Bachmeier was 13 of 22 for 122 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 64 yards and a touchdown. The quarterback finished with 229 yards of total offense. BYU has won three straight in the rivalry series for the first time since winning four straight from 1989 to 1992.
2. Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza
Fernando Mendoza completed 24 of 28 passes en route to a 38-13 blowout win over Michigan State. The former Cal quarterback threw for 332 yards and four touchdowns and finished with an 85.7% completion percentage. He enters Week 9 of the college football season with a 21 touchdown to two interception ratio.
3. Louisville QB Miller Moss
In his biggest game yet in a Louisville uniform, former USC transfer quarterback Miller Moss came up big as the Cardinals knocked off No. 2 Miami. Moss was 23 of 37 in the win, throwing for 248 yards and rushing for a touchdown. The USC transfer also threw two touchdown passes to wide receiver Chris Bell.
4. Houston QB Conner Weigman
Houston quarterback Conner Weigman set up the game-winning field goal on a 13-play, 52-yard drive at Arizona. The Texas A&M transfer was 15 of 23 passing for 164 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown. The win improved the Cougars to 6-1 and 3-1 in the Big 12.
5. Duke QB Darian Mensah
Duke fell 27-18 to Georgia Tech on Saturday, ending the Blue Devils’ push to take first place in the ACC at the halfway mark of the season. Tulane transfer quarterback Darian Mensah was 32 of 44 passing for 373 yards and two touchdowns.
6. Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss
In a top-10 matchup in Athens, Ferris State transfer quarterback Trinidad Chambliss was 19 of 36 for 263 yards and a touchdown as he tried to lead Ole Miss to a road win. Chambliss also rushed for two touchdowns in the loss. He’s thrown just one interception in seven games.

7. Mississippi State WR Brenen Thompson
Former Texas and Oklahoma transfer Brenen Thompson gave Florida’s secondary problems all day Saturday in Gainesville, racking up seven catches for 155 yards in a tight loss. He averaged 22.1 yards per catch with a long of 47 yards. He ranks No. 4 in the SEC in receiving.
8. Arkansas WR O’Mega Blake
In a tight 45-42 loss to Texas A&M, former South Carolina and Charlotte transfer O’Mega Blake emerged as Taylen Green’s top target. The wide receiver finished with seven catches for 118 yards and a touchdown, averaging 16.9 yards per catch.
9. Vanderbilt OL Jordan White
Credited by Pro Football Focus with Vanderbilt’s highest overall and run block grades in the win over No. 10 LSU, offensive lineman Jordan White paved the way for 239 rushing yards, the most allowed by the Tigers this season. White did not allow a sack or quarterback hit in 32 pass blocking snaps. The 31 points and 239 rushing yards recorded by Vanderbilt were the most allowed by the Tigers this year.
10. Texas K Mason Shipley
Texas State transfer kicker Mason Shipley delivered down the stretch for the Longhorns at Kentucky. Shipley connected on all three field goal attempts, which came in the second half. He converted a season-long 53-yard field goal with two minutes left in the third quarter, along with a 45-yard game-winning field goal in overtime.
